When was the Quran first revealed?

Quran means reading or recitation, the word has specifically come to mean the Quran revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Quran is the foundational book of Muslims and it is the complete and authentic record of the original revelations. The Quran was organised in its current form by the direct instructions of the Prophet himself. We believe that no one has the authority to alter the Quran since every word in the Quran is the word of God.

Muslims regard the Quran as the speech of Allah and as such it is eternal. The Quran is kept in the Divine tablet (Laoh Mahfuz), it was revealed from there to the first heaven. From here it was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) on the Night of Power (Layltul Qadr) whilst he was on his spiritual retreat in the cave on the mountain of light. This was the first revelation. The first revelation was the chapter Iqra revealed in 610 AD. The angel responsible for the Divine revelation was Jibreel.
