Watch Dr Musharraf Hussain sharing his thoughts and analysis of Surat Al-A’la. This is an early Makkan surat, its central theme is the role of the Majestic Quran and the Messenger ﷺ as reminders. By referring to the early Scriptures of Musa and Ibrahim, the Quran makes it clear that this is a continuation of the same mission of past prophets. What blinds humanity to this reality? The answer is the love of worldly life. These verses express contempt for love of the material world since it distracts people from their Lord.
In the name of Allah, the Kind, the Caring.
Praise and glorify your Lord
1 Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High. 2 Who created and made you complete; 3 Who fixed destiny and gave guidance, 4 Who produced green pastures, 5 then turned it into dry dusty debris.
The journey of spiritual growth
6 We will teach you the Quran so you will not forget it, 7 except what Allah may wish. He knows the open and the hidden. 8 We shall make your journey easy, 9 so give reminder; the reminder is beneficial. 10 The one in awe of his Lord will listen, 11 but the wicked will ignore, 12 he will enter the Great Fire, 13 no dying and no living. 14 Successful indeed is the one who purifies himself, 15 and remembers the name of his Lord, and performs the prayer regularly. 16 You prefer the worldly life, 17 yet the Hereafter is far better and everlasting. 18 This fact is also mentioned in the previous Scriptures, 19 and in the Scriptures of Ibrahim and Musa.
