Intercession comes from the Arabic Shaf’ah, which means to intervene on someone’s behalf and seek favours for them. We believe that the Quran will intercede for its readers on the day of judgement here are some of the sayings of the blessed Messenger (peace be upon him) on this topic:
- Abu Umamah reported I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saying, “read the Quran regularly since it will come as an intercessor for its reciters on the day of judgement” (Muslim).
- Abdullah Ibn Umar says the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “it will be said to the expert Quran reader on the day of Judgement read and continue to rise and read slowly as you used to read in the world and wherever you finish that will be your home”(Ahmed).
- Abu Saeed Al Khudri narrated, “I was sitting with a group of emigrants, one of them was reciting the Quran, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came and stood there, listening to him, when he stopped reading. The Messenger (peace be upon him) asked what were you doing? “We were listening to the glorious Quran”, they said. He said, “all praise is for Allah who has created people like this in my community, I was told to keep their company, he (peace be upon him) then asked everybody to make a circle around him, so he (peace be upon him) addressed them, “my needy friends, here is good news for you, in Paradise, you will have light and you will enter heaven 500 years earlier than the wealthy” (Abu Dawood).
